Programs in India

Our Approach

We believe client education is integral to the long-term success and sustainability of the microfinance industry. Since 2008, we have been working in India on this key nonfinancial component of economic development through two innovative programs for microentrepreneurs:

MoneyPlan: Our financial literacy program is a workshop-based training initiative. It focuses on: financial planning, budgeting, insurance, banking, and the unique business correspondent model in India. Learn more about MoneyPlan.

Dialogue on Business: Our business-training model that uses interactive games and role-playing to help microentrepreneurs solve real-life business challenges. We offer courses on business feasibility, entrepreneurial management, leadership, communication and promotion, cash management, savings, investing, and debt. Learn more about Dialogue on Business.

Since launching MoneyPlan and our award-winning Dialogue on Business training programs in India, we have worked with local and regional partners to train 200,000 microentrenepreneurs throughout the country. Our programs are available in nine Indian states and seven languages (English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Gujarati).

These training programs are offered at an organizational level. We certify staff members of our partner institutions so they can in turn train their clients. We also provide each organization with a project coordinator, who ensures trainings are delivered with consistent quality in a culturally appropriate manner.

Our Team

Our global presence and extensive experience in the microfinance industry are the foundation of our client education efforts. Our team has developed a comprehensive suite of materials focusing on the topics that are most relevant to low-income clients. In creating, delivering, and evaluating our programs, we access the wealth of training expertise within Accion as well as across our network of industry partners.
