Strong management of the economy, rich natural resources and a competitive business environment have made Ghana one of the best economic performers in Africa. The agriculture and service sectors combined account for approximately 75 percent of the nation’s GDP and employ a majority of the national workforce. Despite many economic successes in Ghana, less than a third of the population has an account at a formal financial institution, and a significant portion still lives below the poverty line.

Since first providing support to African microfinance institutions in 2000, Accion has expanded to serve several countries in Africa and established a permanent presence through our hub office in Accra, Ghana. We now provide industry training and technical assistance programs in Cameroon, Nigeria and Tanzania, as well as to our partner in Ghana, Pan-African Savings and Loans. Accion partnered with Ecobank, the leading regional bank in West Africa, to launch Pan-African Savings and Loans in 2008. The bank delivers a range of microfinance services in Ghana, including loans as low as U.S. $100, savings products and microinsurance.
