The Recife Society

Recife Society members provide bequests or estate plan gifts to Accion. Your gift, along with other Recife Society members’ gifts, will be invested in future generations and will empower people living in poverty worldwide with access to economic opportunity, and help them secure brighter futures for themselves and their families.

"I have joined the Recife Society because I think it’s an important way of making sure I give totally, and it’s over my lifetime."

- Nancy Sherwood Truitt
Recife Society Member since 2005

If you decide to provide Accion with a bequest or other planned gift, we will be honored to welcome you into the Recife Society, and you will be invited to enjoy special events and be recognized in our annual report and on our website.

An Accion Legacy

Founded in 1961 as a community development organization in the poor neighborhoods of Venezuela, Accion made its first microloan in the northeastern city of Recife, Brazil, in 1973. While that was a bold step, the driving force behind our mission remains the same: serving enterprising men and women left behind by the world’s economic systems.

Accion has named its legacy gift society the Recife Society – not only to honor the birthplace of microfinance, but also to recognize that anyone who supports Accion’s future through a legacy gift is supporting our original and future vision.
